And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Popcorn ammo for your thundergun. I guess everyone has to start somewhere. 13gr Unique and a soft lead bullet of 35-520gr. Good for 1250fps, about equal to the original loading. Not much recoil.
Those are fairly light 45-70 loads. I've got some of that Buffalo Bore 380 Grain/2075 fps Mono Metal Dangerous Game ammo for mine. Now all I need is something that needs to get smacked that hard.
I was inspired to get the Marlin Guide Gun and customize it after a trip hiking around in Alaska. I will say that nothing makes you feel as alert and alive as hiking around in the land of the Griz.
I've got 4 Henry's, with a 45-70 big boy. But, I've moved to Marlin rifles, prior to the Remington takeover disaster. I like the JM stamped rifles, and so far, have 3, 2 in 450 Marlin, 1 in 45-70. The 1895G is the guide rifle and have one in each caliber. Since Mr. Griz has been in the area, having a hard hitting lever gun just seems like a good idea.
What calibor is that? There seames to be a slight taper from the base up to the lead.

DeleteNot a gun expert but didn't they outlaw lead for hunting years ago?
ReplyDeleteThat was only for migratory waterfowl IIRC.
DeleteThis is the year I'll be putting a Henry big bore in my stable.
