    1. The fish in the image is a brook trout (a nice fat one) (Salvelinus fontinalis), which is actually a type of char, not a true trout.

  4. Arctic Char and Brook Trout will cross breed in the wild when they can and their offspring are not 'mules', so they are the same species in some places and not in others. The species have only been around since the end of the ice age so genetic exchange in on-going. Same goes for a host of salmonids ... a work in process.
