And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The Parthenon was mostly destroyed in the late 1600s by Christians who were battling the Islamic forces that were in control of the Acropolis. Yay Jesus. Most of the surviving statues and carvings were removed by the victors, many of which are on display in the British Museum.
With the 'Then' rendering why not restore it to its former glory? Now THAT would be incredible to see and get the feel of what it used to be way back when.
Could this even be built today? Not likely.
