  1. A very capable and versatile airplane, actually. Better than the Dorniers and Heinkels of the Battle of Britain era. Over 15,000 were produced and it served throughout the war.

  2. Seating for 3 was cozy at best

  3. I read somewhere years ago that the design fundamentals originated with a couple of American engineers and the Germans helped themselves. Eric Brown rated it very highly.

  4. Interesting shape for the control column. It looks as though it would be right at home in any modern bizjet. Any idea as to the purpose of the 1" diameter (or so) pipe along the right side of the cockpit?

  5. Stressed skin construction unheard of in anything but American aircraft of the time.

    1. Uhmm, no. There were hundreds of stressed skin aircraft designs produced in the '30s, Junkers pioneered stressed skin in WW1. Off the top of my head there were only three major combat aircraft of WWII that didn't have stressed skin - the Fairey Swordfish, Hawker Hurricane and Vickers Wellington.

  8. My dads' unit shot one down in Greenland. If Germany could get a base in Greenland they could control the North Atlantic.
