And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My grandmother, raising 3 kids in very small-town eastern Ohio during the Depression, once said to me, "You know what poor is, Rick? It's when the bus costs 6 cents, and you got the nickel but you ain't got the penny!" Quite an investment indeed.
Before my father retired in' '63, my mother would give me $10 for us to ride the El from Edison Park to Cubs/Sox games. General Admission, she'd have 2 beers, me 2 cokes. Hot dog & popcorn for each.
She'd feign trying to find our seats, walking by the Tribune seats. She'd get asked if we subscribed, "Yes!"
We got Tribure seats 5 rows behind Ernie Banks dugout every time.

And I got to keep the $1.65 after expenses.
Bleacher seats on game day were a buck.
