And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I was going to guess around the turn of the century, and maybe that's confirmed by the footage of the Weyerhaeuser mill taken in 1915 in the video above.
I was lucky enough to have worked in a traditional old sawmill in the '70s. It had an 8' double cut band mill and the inside of the mill looked a lot like the mills shown in this video. But it was newer in that it didn't have a guy riding the carriage, operating the set works. I always thought that would have been a wild job.
I wonder when band saws took over from circular saws in the mills?
