  1. I wonder when band saws took over from circular saws in the mills?

    1. I was going to guess around the turn of the century, and maybe that's confirmed by the footage of the Weyerhaeuser mill taken in 1915 in the video above.

      I was lucky enough to have worked in a traditional old sawmill in the '70s. It had an 8' double cut band mill and the inside of the mill looked a lot like the mills shown in this video. But it was newer in that it didn't have a guy riding the carriage, operating the set works. I always thought that would have been a wild job.
