And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I once saw an empty bomb case, a big bomb (a "Little Boy" case), sitting on it's tail fins 'wobble' as the forklift went over the hanger tracks. I knew this was not a real bomb but my heart skipped a beat when it wobbled.
In this picture dropping the bomb would be scary but the 'falling' fear would be there first :-) Either way this has a good title!
The first time I drove a forklift and went to unload a truck, no one told me it didn't have any brakes. I was literally standing on the brake pedal before throwing it into reverse.
The Fuse/detonator should not be in it at this point, so it should be fairly safe, although at the tip of the nose of this bomb (?) there does not appear to be the normal fitting or prep to receive the screw in detonator..........??
My first ship I worked with 16k weapons and cargo elevator. The bombs and the ordnance going below wasn't all that scary, the pallet conveyer that some idiot left an OXYACETYLENE rig on that dropped into the bottom of the oily greasy pit. that scared the crap out of me. If the conveyer had torn the top off the O2 bottle the same way it did the Acetylene bottle, the ship would have blown up since it was right next to the LFORM magazine.
That picture was in a USAF Safety video for forklift training in the early 80's. I saw that video every two years when I got recertified at least 5 times.

Could have been at Port Chicago.

ReplyDeleteLooks staged to me. The length of the tail portion far exceeds the space from the forklift to the side of the door opening.
ReplyDeleteAs it turns out, Carl no longer required a prep for his colonoscopy tomorrow morning......
ReplyDeleteBet there's a coyote under it.
