Years ago when living in Delta Jct, Alaska my dog mushing friend found a partially eaten black bear on a late fall training run. He assumes grizzly bear predation and warned me to be careful when walking out that way hunting rabbits! On the grizzly vs polar bear I understand that they usually wouldn’t cross paths but with ice sometimes being weird these days I would bet on the polar bear unless they were opposite sexes and it was breeding season because I have read of crosses!
There is a story in one of the Alaska Bear tales books about a female black bear killing a male grizzly in a fight over a dead animal ( I can't remember what it was) but she knocked both the Grizzly's eyes out and finally killed it. She was torn up really bad and died shortly there after but she did win.
That's why black bears should always be armed.
ReplyDeleteI dunno. Mamma black bear protecting her cub. Griz may win, but he ain't going to enjoy the process
ReplyDeleteThere's a racist joke in there somewhere but I won't make it!
ReplyDeleteWhat about a polar bear vs a grizzly?
