And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The Great Danny “Magoo”Chandler. One of the greats IMO and tragically ended up paralyzed. I have a Maico of that year only a 250 not the famous 490. Klaus
I've got an acquaintance who, in his middle years, rolled a car and ended up a quadriplegic. I visited Don a couple of times while he was in the occupational rehab hospital....a very inspiring guy. When you suddenly find yourself as para- or quad-, there are a thousand formerly-routine tasks of everyday life that you have to relearn how to do. For example, getting out of bed, getting dressed, making your breakfast, wiping your ass. Not only has your physical life changed, but also your emotional life has changed too.
Anyway, on one of my visits to Don, I met one of his buddies there, a 20-something kid who was then a new paraplegic, after having gone over the handlebars of his mountain bike (not so very much different than the picture above). Place yourself in this situation: You're 20-something, and you're in a chair for the rest of your life, and you've just been told that barring a miracle, that you've had the last erection of your life.
Those adventure sports are all very fun, but occasionally there is a high price to be paid.
Here comes the PAIN...
ReplyDeleteThe year, . . . ? I'm guessing mid 1970's (pre mono shock era).
