Covering the Canyon

  1. Me? I'd be on my belly using that pack as a rifle rest. Also, those packs have a lot of loose baggage hanging all over them making noise and threatening to get hung up or snagged. Do they have no military discipline at all?

    1. Pretty open country. The are glassing, not shooting ( yet).
The "baggage " is well secured, not that there is much chance in that country of snagging or getting hung up. This ain't the 'Nam.
The two items on the near guy are a CAT and a smoke both of which you want to be able to get to in a hurry.

  3. Picture is from the Wall Street Journal and titled "Special-operations troops watch the ridgelines during a patrol in the Spingar mountains above Mohmand Valley, Afghanistan."

The left hand operative appears to be scoping/observing.

  5. That pic reminds me of hunting sheep in the San Gabriel and San Jacinto mountain ranges. The canyons were wider but just as steep and rugged.

(Statute of limitations is run out so I can now admit we were doing what the law said we couldn't. In hunting, my law was taught by my dad; take only what you need. And don't harm, injure, or disturb what you don't need. I figure the state law is for them who are not good stewards.)
