Not sure how this can happen

  1. Easy. Drive shaft broke at the front U joint then drops down onto the pavement and digs in, resulting in the truck trying to polevault on the drive shaft until the rear axle breaks off.

    1. Man, that had to be one worn out driveshaft/U joint. Once, in my youth, I waited way too long to replace a failing U joint, but it made mucho noise in the process until I took it in and had it fixed. At the point I couldn't drown out the noise with the radio, so I spent the money to fix it. The mechanics gave me the stink eye for not taking the noise more seriously.

    That's also why dragsters have to have a collar around the axle, near the front joint. To prevent that from happening.
