And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Sigh...

There are three big fires going in the region, the closest to me being the Butte Fire, about 25 or 30 miles to the east. I'm safe as I'm not really in the foothills where the brush and canyons are.
Here's what I saw on the way home from work the first day the Butte fire got going:
I saw that. Only in Russia. They probably named the bear Sasha or something. If I were to do that even with our little black bears I'd be really concerned I'd have company inside the house sooner rather than later.
It looks like the end of the world.

Wow.. amazing image! I wonder how much the true "global warming" impact is. I bet the soot will cause cooling from lack of sunshine :)
