There's a great story over at Legal Insurrection about the disaster that was the candidate forum over at Netroots Nation, an organization of Progressive bloggers.
Read the article, but in essence everyone tried to shout everyone else down, mainly with progressive slogans demanding attention to each little victim group.
Failure to pay homage to everyone's sacred cow results in accusations and insults. It's political correctness run amok, and the main stream Democratic Party has it's hands full trying to maintain even a modicum of control over this monster it's created.
But it's nothing new. Back in the 30's, when there were truly radically leftist political parties surging for popularity, they prevented themselves from ever becoming politically relevant through just this sort of strident position staking and refusal to compromise or even debate normally.
Today's main stream candidates like O'Malley and Sanders are no doubt appalled by this performance, but they will ultimately have to decide if the party can move forward with these extreme partisans under the Democratic banner.
No doubt it will be fun to watch.

ReplyDeleteEven then it was nothing new. Leftists have traditionally included the lunatic fringe, who are unable to compromise on much of anything. In the early 20th century the "movement" in Russia was riven by Bolsheviks, Mensheviks, Stalinists, Trotskyites; these days the Victimhood Olympics becomes a lifestyle.
They're crazy, simply enough - and to be avoided at all costs. You oughta see the types wandering around Sebastopol.
