At 30,000 pounds, the Massive Ordnance Penetrator packs brute force and advanced features meant to enable it to destroy Iran's most fortified nuclear site. The bomb is nearly a third bigger than the MOAB, or so-called "Mother of all Bombs," the 22,000-pound previous generation of bunker busters first built in 2003 but never used outside of tests. Officials are confident the newest bunker-buster can dismantle even the deepest and most fortified nuclear facility."
The only way to be sure is with a penetrating nuclear weapon. Sorry. That's just how I feel about it.
ReplyDeleteThe Air force developed this bomb so that they could make the claim of being capable without resorting to nukes. The Air force also tried to get R&D money about ten years ago to develop a new family of "mini-nukes" just to do this mission.
ReplyDeleteWe have nukes. using them to strike deeply buried military targets soulnds like a win.
This is useless against Iranian facilities. Such a bomb can only be delivered by a B52, C5 galaxy or other BIG SLOW HUGE plane.....something subsonic and easy to shoot down. Even if we control the air over Iran they will still have air defense missiles that will stop such planes. Odds of successfully delivering such a weapon are slim. To knock out the production sites will require nukes. Once that can of worms is opened life gets real interesting....and for many millions or even billions very short.
