It all started out so well:
"Connecticut has so many advantages that it might be hard to understand how it became one of America’s worst-performing state economies.
As we know, Connecticut is located along an important commercial corridor between New York and Boston. It’s well-served by railroads and highways. Major airports are accessible. Connecticut has many charming towns, historic sights, stylish shops and nice beaches. CNN determined that of America’s 25 towns with the highest median family incomes, four are in Connecticut – New Canaan (#1), Darien (#2), Westport (#5) and Greenwich (#14). The most expensive American home ever offered for sale is Copper Beech Farm which, with an asking price of $190 million, has 50 acres of waterfront property in Greenwich."
But somehow, all those advantages have not resulted in consistent prosperity. Over the last two decades, almost 10% of the population have moved away.
Connecticut ranked the worst in all the states for annual economic growth, and for the second year in a row it's economy has actually contracted.
What could possibly be the cause? Could it be something similar to what has brought Detroit from the heights of the fourth largest and most prosperous city in America to it's current condition?
Actually, it is the exact same factor.
In Connecticut, the Democrats took political control during the Depression, and have never been seriously challenged since.
The result is the same. Currently, the state has one of the highest debts, the highest tax burden (how those two statistics go together is another whole article, but they do if the Democrats are in charge), a terrible business climate, and are on the bottom for economic outlook and economic performance.
Sound familiar? It does to me.
In Detroit it was the same thing, with the added flavor of some strong black racism.
Here in California, it is the same story, except less advanced. It's a state with enormous resources, human talent, and world class industries, yet the state government can't seem to balance it's budget in spite of creating one of the country's highest tax burdens, and they have moved the business climate from positive to highly toxic. And what do you know, the results are the same.
As impossible as it might seem, it's the Democratic politicians, and their poisonous ideology, that have created all of this, and yet somehow they still get elected over and over again. How long will it be before those who want to live in a healthy country, who want to keep the majority of the fruits of their labor, and who don't want to live among a seething mass of poverty stricken and angry people who have been taught to blame the producers have had enough, and seek to salvage some part of their country?
