Night time on the pass

Maybe 11 pm Sunday night just east of Kit Carson Pass, Sierra Nevada, California.

The only Perseid we managed to capture, although there were plenty, as well as an amazing amount the airplane traffic.

Looking west toward the pass, which is just around the corner.

  1. Nice sky on the bottom pic!

Maybe it is time to dig out my old tripod...

  2. I know exactly where you were standing when you took those photos. Perfect spot.

    1. Lou, it was a great experience there, especially after the traffic petered out after about ten o'clock. We saw some nice big meteors, a few of which streaked across most of the span of the sky, but of course that always happened when the camera was "processing." It was about 44 degrees when we left, a very pleasant temperature for valley dwellers like us. Makes me want to rent a small trailer house, park it in a secluded spot, and spend a week tramping about in that fine country, both day and night. Maybe in the fall......

  3. Too much cloud cover here - only saw three. The very, very best I have ever seen was a giant fireball right after the hurricane Sandy. Beautiful pics, cw!
