New Bill Would Eliminate ATF’s Ability to Ban Ammo Through Reclassification
The Lawful Purpose and Self-Defense Actwould remove the ATF's discretion in classifying certain ammunition as "armor piercing." Instead of relying on the ATF or attorney general's judgment on which "armor piercing" rounds should be given a "sporting purpose" exception, the bill would rely on the manufacturer's design and intent. Rep. Bishop said his intention is to prevent gray areas in the law from being used to push new gun control.
Exactly.
Living in the one party state of California, I can tell you that the politicians have made every effort to make gun ownership, as allowed by natural law and the Constitution, very difficult and expensive, and this sort of regulatory harassment is their chosen method. It is indeed nullification of a clear Constitutional right by regulation.
The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Seems that this clear language is simply ignored by the politicians, and explained away by the judges. Recently we see the same thing happening to the first amendment, where folks who don't like certain speech call it "hate speech" and try to convince everyone that it is not protected by the Constitution, in spite of caselaw and well known examples of so called hate speech being allowed. It all depends on who defines what "hate speech" is. It all depends on who defines which guns are "safe" or which people are appropriately allowed to carry.
Once you allow the bureaucrats and their political masters to redefine things in this way, the slide down the slippery slope has commenced, and your rights begin to disappear.
Therefore, more power to Representative Bishop, and success to his efforts to restore the natural rights of all Americans, against the cowardly machinations of the faceless bureaucrat and the soulless leftwing politicians.
