  3. Had one as my main transport / business truck. Loved every minute of it.
Took it frome Charlott, over and through the Blueridge Mountains to the Mississippi River. All while towing a camper with a Harlie in the back of the truck. That old 6 cylinder sure had torque, but serveral times coming down the
mountains I wished for better brakes.

  4. The Chevy version was the first pickup I drove on the road. The brakes are okay when it's empty but marginal when loaded or going downhill. The windshield wipers try hard but that's about it.

  5. Had a '52 long bed van... a lot of work put into it, as a teenager.

Changed out the rear end for modern hwy speeds
Rebuilt the 261engine, added oil filtration, converted ALL of it from 6vdc to 12vdc, rebuilt the front end, king pins, added rear shocks, rebuilt the vacuum wipers, heater blower, managed to find the original radiator (new) and heater cores, replaced all the glass with safety glass, added seat belts, added cruise control, new 17" tires on the split rims (reused the original 'live rubber' tubes) the tires were found in storage, very old, but new, added rear heat, sand blasted it, did all the body work & repainted it Blue.... (found 3 bullet holes!)

    Customized the entire inside...
Power inverter, spare battery, 4 channel reel-to-reel tape, tv, fridge, 3 level bar, hot / cold running water, electric heat, CB radio, insulated & paneled, the entire back folded down into a large bed - and then... my new wife & I lived in it.

My brother sold/gave it away to a Convict fresh out of prison & never got a penny for it... or the van ever again. Still got the original Title & Plates somewhere.

  6. Bought a ‘51 GMC Suburban in 1971 for $400, which was a lot for us then. Was the family vehicle for a lot of years. Sure wish we still had it.

  7. I believe the last gasoline vehicle running will be one of these.
