Extraordinary Entrance

  1. The door pictured is a custom-made, arched solid wood entry door featuring a circular stained-glass window and hand-carved nature motifs.

This specific door appears to be a unique project, with one fabricator noting it was an "extra mod" to a home that utilized a reused oak door, custom "clavos" (iron studs), and an arched frame built from stacked plywood and bondo.

    Key Features and Customization

Design: Arched top with a circular window insert. The door is often described as "storybook," "rustic," or "Spanish style".

Carvings: It features a large "Tree of Life" carving in the center and leaf/floral motifs on the bottom panel.

Hardware: Decorative iron studs, known as clavos, are used along the panels.

Materials: Frequently crafted from solid woods such as Oak, Knotty Alder, Mango wood, or reclaimed lumber.

  2. The carving is very hard to see in the photo, but carving fine detail in that grain
would be very hard. Looks to me to be computer cut mask and sand blasted as
as I did in many materials. I've also hand routed and computer routed in harder or
wide or flat grained wood but preferred vertical grained clear heart redwood, cedar
or sometimes a hard fine grained walnut for carving projects. Anything can be

if time is not a consideration, but I was always on a time and money constraints.

  3. Like the round stain glass panel. Needs a bit of wrought iron work.

  4. Imagine having to move large furniture in or out of that house through that door.
Hopefully there's a larger double door somewhere accessible to get that sofa or piano inside.
