Big Boy Plane

  1. I've heard from a reliable source that the big ones almost fly themselves.

    1. Mind blowing that they can land themselves in darkness or thunderstorms.

    2. How long before the airlines outsource the pilots seat to a remote operator in India... Just the copilot seat... to start.

  2. I've heard you only need a few lessons in a Cessna, and to not even do well at them, to be able fly a big boy plane.

  3. The issue isn’t flying the big one, the issue is knowing what to do when something goes wrong, fails or otherwise shits the bed at 550mph @ 35,000 ft

    1. Check out Mentourpilot on YouTube. Analyzes plane mishaps and crashes. Flying isn't really all that easy, especially when something goes wrong. It is frankly shocking how often it goes from perfectly normal flight to plummeting to earth in about two minutes.

  4. This is an Airbus A-380. You see 4 sets of engine gauges in the upper panel dead center and if you look at the brightly lit panel center right, you see 5 green triangles....one above and 4 in line below. These are landing gear indicators. The A380 has a nose gear and 4 main landing gear trucks.

FWIW #1, the Captain has his screens displaying a tail-mounted camera's view of his lineup on the runway.

FWIW #2. You know right away that this is not a plane from an American company. Firstly, no American carrier flies the A380. But more broadly, American companies do not allow their pilots to operate Personal Electronic Devices (cameras, phones, etc.) when below 10,000'. If you're seeing a picture or video of an airliner cockpit while the plane is on or near the ground, that plane is not from an American carrier.
