And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Good News. More accurately, the need for this button has been removed.
By government law, newer cars will turn the motor off if you come to a stop, say at a stoplight, then start the car again when you press the accelerator. Supposed to save gas. This button disables that function. Some cars don't even allow that. Now, the good news is, the car makers are no longer required to add this function to your car, so it won't shut off every time you come to a stop, and then start again when you ask it to go.
Way back in the day, less-than-mental-giants thought that it was more economical to turn off your car's engine rather than let it idle. Not much time later, they were proven wrong because starting and stopping your car's engine made it wear out faster. Especially the starter.
Same thing was said for "Right Turn On Red" back in 1975. "They" thought it would save gas; but: https://tooledesign.com/insights/2025/09/right-turn-on-red-its-time-to-reconsider/
A big reason I'm still driving a 2012. It's the 'newest' model I'm willing to own. Even at that I hate the TPI system it has. Trump gets them to remove all the unnecessary, expensive and stupid 'features' maybe I'll think about buying a new car someday.
And this function is what worries you while he does this? "Key trends in 2025 layoffs: Record-high numbers: U.S. employers announced over 1.17 million job cuts through November, surpassing the 1 million mark for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic."
As a side note your newer car with direct injection needs to have its oil changed no more than every 3000 miles. It will last a lot longer. Don't fall for the oil is better so you change it every 5 or 6000 miles. Our newer VW recommends to change the oil every 12,000 miles ha!
Not that long ago truckers and heavy equipment operators let their engines run as much as possible. The longest lasting engines are diesel pumps and generators that are rarely shut down.
This? This is what you voted for? Let me understand your logic. You had your ballot and your thought process was I will vote for the person that removes the start-stop features in passenger cars? I heard about people voting based on 2A, abortion, the economy, even foreign relations... I never heard of anyone voting based on passenger vehicles regulation.
Are there many people like you? Do you get together with other similarly minded people? Do you wear same colored hats and shirts? How can I tell your people apart from other groups? What are your thoughts on rear blinker lights? Should they all be orange or are you ok with the blinker being red (it can get confused with the brake light)?
Geez… dude… take a breath… are you off your meds…??
By “this is what I voted for”, concerning the stop/start insanity, it’s obvious that he meant….keep the woke bs out of our economy, products, and everyday life…
Actually, . . . it is more often that little battery that gives out first (maybe view some videos on YouTube, etc.).
[If you do not know, the newer cars that have this feature actually have two batteries, the first one is the main battery, and the second, much smaller battery is the one that starts that car engine, repeatedly every time you come to a stoplight, etc.].
I think that I have a question (about something written above). So, Biden, and his administration, and all the Democrats and supporters, did what they did for four years, the bad things, that affected the economy. But Trump, who has only been in office for eleven months, is expected to turn that all around? [Please do not go off on tangents. Stay focused. Answer the question. Thank you.].
Isn't that what he promised? His exact quote was "“Starting on day one, we will end inflation and make America affordable again, to bring down the prices of all goods.” It's been 11 months https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-said-d-lower-grocery-110057971.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAK_aq4TKUSkkWqC3kf_l2er7VL6iph_iCHlXH_pJ0hFJHFm7nhBJDxD4oyzdYG7iPBpx_MiR6lrqt7SK91xztEM67Pux33GZk2k6xqX8Mt6trWlWCVEvChJJrxGApKSdCHOCQdlQ3JOsDgoDwXPxuj7GqAYINm2r3YRrlgPdkh8M
For better or worse Trump inherited from Biden an economy that was not good but that was trending in the right direction. At the end of Biden's term inflation was trending down, employment was high, because inflation was trending down the Fed was starting to cut rates, most Americans had a positive outlook for the next year (partially driven by the elections and the certainty that Biden was out of the picture). The American economy was the envy of the developed world. Most other countries had bigger inflation and employment problems. (https://www.economist.com/special-report/2024-10-19)
Since getting into office Trump's policies have made the economy objectively worse. Tariffs are a tax on Americans that have inflationary impacts. What is worse is the constant flipflopping on tariffs has the effect of stopping business and investments. The decision to move production is made looking at a 25 year or longer horizon. Tariffs change on a weekly basis. Why would anyone move production to America if tariffs can change again tomorrow? ICE going around deporting people also has an inflationary effect. Fewer workers means higher wages which translate into higher prices and the spiral goes on and on.
To summarize. Had Trump done nothing we would be better off. All he had to do was ride the wave we were on and keep it going. Tariffs, ICE, trade wars, flipflopping all have negative effects on the economy and American's are noticing https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fox-news-poll-voters-say-white-house-doing-more-harm-than-good-economy
Trump's approval on the economy today is just as bad as Biden's was at the end of his term. The biggest difference is at the end of Biden's term we all were optimistic about the future. Given Trump's performance so far and the 3 years that are left on his term people are pessimistic about the future and that is a REALLY bad place to be in
Good or bad, it isn't going away. There will still be a CAFE average and the manufacturers will include this as a way to help out that number so they don't have to do other things.
Remember the automatic seatbelt back in the 70s. Nanny state bullcrap! It's my gas, my engine and my starter. And living in the south i want my AC on all the damn time, especially in traffic!
Me love my 89 Chevy pickup. I'll get buried in it. Everything you need nothing you don't, dirt cheap parts, superbly reliable, excellent 4WD, so what it gets 14-16mikes per gallon, the savings on insurance and tag taxes more than compensate, and no bank loan.
I don't know what this is...

DeleteThat feature saves gasoline, but reduces engine life.

ReplyDeleteI figured, and was very quickly proven correct, that Right Turn On Red After STOP, would soon be Right Turn On Red If You Think You Can Make It.
DeleteWhoever came up with Auto Stop/Start never drove down MLK Boulevard after dark.
ReplyDeleteLOL

gullible idiot
DeleteHey, the "Tammy & Denise Show" comes on in 10 mins, go get your soi latte and raspberry scones and kick back....
nope, he doesn't worry me. He is doing what we voted for. Stopping the democrat bullshit is exactly why we wanted him in office.
DeleteI voted for him to lower prices. Maybe now that this button is no longer needed he can focus on the economy for a minute or two
DeleteIf those 1.17 million job cuts include a good number of former government employees, I'm all for it.
DeleteExactly

Elmo, maybe they should learn to code...
DeleteAny pause as long as a minute and economy is better served letting the motor run.
ReplyDeletegreggBC - Keep smoking that weed. When you have to replace your starter, you let me know how much money you saved starting and stopping unnecessarily.

ReplyDeleteJessica: “The engine in my mom’s car stops running when the car comes to a stop.”
Danny: “I used to have a car like that. Then I got a job.”
