And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Sure would like a metric by which we could acknowledge the drought is over. I suspect we will be harangued somewhat indefinitely by petty bueaurocrats well after the drought is over.
Has California ever not been in a drought situation in the last 25 years? Lived in Modesto back in the 90's and it seemed like that a "drought" was the only description of the climate.
California is right on the border between the wet pacific northwest and the desert southwest. Some years it tends more to one, some the other. I recall that in the '70's there was a three or four year drought that was really severe. One of those years had the lowest recorded rainfall in history, if memory serves. Everyone forgets that now. I remember the Mokelumne River looked like a creek. We survived that, we'll survive them just fine in the future. But, hysterical 'the sky is falling' reporting on the news is just business, since it gets more people watching and listening. Better just to ignore all the screaming and carry on.

ReplyDeleteYeah, the whole "panic it's a drought" is great for content on the evening news. They'll be loathe to give it up.
