And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It's not a lot of fun with Scout... if your 9.5 month preg in June, in 100 degree heat, in a pasture 2 mi from the house, and Scout decides to quit you... just say'n. Never trusted that rolling piece of $hit, if something wasn't broke on it it wasn't happy!
Fair warning Brighid, Lou drives a Scout he bought new in 1972, and has over the years developed a sort of personal relationship with it. Of course, he also keeps a weather eye on it to make sure it behaves, but so far he has kept ahead of it and sees no reason to replace it. Saves him a fortune in insurance and registration fees as well.
Brighid, I'm sympathetic to your memory of Scout. My memory is the night my wife went into labor 28 years ago and I took her to the hospital in my Scout. I threw her into 4-Low (the Scout) and drove right into the delivery room. My daughter came home in that Scout and we've camped and traveled through the 15 western states in her. Now she sits out back waiting to do our bidding.
Now THAT is just pure Americana!! Pure red power...

ReplyDeleteLou, what an awesome story! Glad your experiences with Scout are much better than mine. Roll On!
ReplyDeleteWe had a Scout - same vintage, when I was a kid. And we loved it.
