In Obama's presser today, he called the failure to pass a law requiring background checks "A shameful day for Washington."
One might have some sympathy for those who wanted the background check law, as on it's face it would be logical that if you wanted guns out of the hands of the criminal or the insane, that a background check at the point of purchase would be what was wanted. Here where I live in California, we already have that, plus a 10 day wait to "cool off," as our political betters would call it.
So why no approval in Congress??
My thought is that trust in Obama and the Democrats has been so damaged that even with what appears to be a reasonable law many do not believe that they are honest about it.
Remember, just this year the Democrat Cuomo has pushed through a law in that state's legislature, in a manner similar to how Obama passed Obamacare, that made immediate criminals out of hitherto law abiding regular folks. The law was so hare brained and passed so quickly that it even made all the weapons the police used illegal. The suspicion is that confiscation, a liberal dream, would be next up, and the Democrats are doing nothing there to discourage that idea.
Recall as well that Obama immediately poisoned the well when he was running for election back in 08 by calling 2nd amendment believers "bitter clingers." With that intemperate statement, he began damaging his credibility, leading now to the loss in Congress. I'm sure at the time Obama couldn't have imagined that the statement would damage him now.
These and many other events I believe have added up over the years, until now, no one on the non liberal side has any belief that Obama is honest, nor have they any trust that he wants to accomplish anything constructive, even it he really does.
As they say, "As you sow, so shall you reap." Here, Obama now gets to enjoy a bumper crop of distrust and resistance, to his apparent amazement.
good job I couldn't agree more
