You know, I never can go over to Ace's site without laughing my self silly.  Now, due to RINO Mitt Romney's apparent coronation as the next Republican candidate for president, a new candidate has emerged, a dark horse extrordinaire, a candidate that can solve all our problems forever (and the emphasis should go on "forever.")

I guess the "Sweet Meteor of Death" will get a few write in votes this election.   Better death, I suppose, than four years of Romney Rinoism  or Obama "death to America" ism.

A good example of a completely useless, but still amazing skill.  Perhaps this kid could leverage this into an appearance on Leno or Letterman.

One wonders how she developed the skill, through practice, or whether she just clicked on some mental trick that makes this easy, which is what I think happened.

In followup to my prior post on Pictish stones, I see that this guy has written a book on them.

I find stuff like this insanely interesting, and i could spend hours on the web researching. It is a good thing I don't live in Scotland or England, because I'd probably spend all my spare time running around looking at and hunting for the spoor of the Picts, and Scots, and Norse, and the Saxons, and the Romans, ad nauseam. 

I plan on getting a copy when it comes out later this spring.

Halcyon January days.

It begins.  Now the government is sticking it's ugly mug in our kitchens, telling us hysterically that suger, that ubiquitous ingredient in cupcakes and ice cream, is a dangerous toxin.

No, really.

And it needs to be regulated, by bureaucrats, for our own good.  Can't be too careful with our health, you know.

And next there will be penalties when we misuse suger.  Zoning laws could be used to keep it out of areas where it is felt too many people are fat.

Oh and don't forget the ultimate control method - taxes!   Take away the suger, and the money.  After all, a new regulatory agency must be created to administer the rules, and a suger police to enforce them, and that costs money.

Onwards to a better world!  A suger free utopia!

The military implications of this are quite interesting, but also threatening.  Better keep an eye on these developments.

Great composition

This is, incredibly, an excerpt from an interview done in Egypt on Al-Hayat TV on January 30th, by none other than our own liberal Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, wherein she advises the Egyptians to use other constitutions than our own as a model for their theirs, because, it seems, ours is "old."

Earth to Ruth - In Egypt they will ultimately end up under Sharia law, because that is what they want, apparently ignoring how "old" it is.  

US to Ruth - what the he!! are you doing disrespecting our own constitution, and the obvious benefits it has given for centuries to you and everyone else here in the states, while you are in a foreign land and appearing there as a representative of our country and government?

This is a clear example of self hatred coming from one of our supposed leaders.  People like this should be excluded from any position of authority, since they clearly do not believe in the foundational principles of our own form of government.  She is exhibit number one as to why the country is in decay.

In service since 1955, the venerable U-2 spy plane may have flown it's last sortie.

That is a respectably long service life, and honorable.

It seems they are now to be replaced with drones, which for all their lack of style, will probably do a better job with no risk of loss to the pilot. Not only that, but without the risk of error from exhaustion.

 "The heavy use of the U-2 has been hard on the pilots. Missions can be as long as 12 hours and pilots operate in a cockpit pressurized to conditions found at 10,000 meters (31,000 feet). This puts more strain on the pilot's body. That, and the fact that they breathe pure oxygen while in the cockpit, means they tend to be completely exhausted after returning from a long mission. U-2s fly missions daily over the Middle East, Afghanistan, and Korea."

Will the current dispute over the Obama administration's mandate on contraception sink Obamacare itself when the question of it's constitutionality inevitably reaches the Supreme Court?

  "It has been pointed out that six of the nine Supreme Court justices are Catholic. It is speculative as to how that may affect their judgments. It is interesting to note, however, that a Jewish justice, Elena Kagan, concurring (with justice Alito) to the unanimous decision in the Hosanna-Tabor case upholding the “ministerial” exemption from EEOC, says, “…-it is easy to forget that the autonomy of religious groups, both here in the United States and abroad, has often served as a shield against oppressive civil laws.” Although the Hosanna-Tabor case entails differing discrete matters of law, Kagan’s expressed understanding there of a correct limit to federal power may be reflected in her or other justices’ considerations."

I believe it will all boil down to whether the justices think the government has the right to intrude into every aspect of our lives with the full force of government compulsion, or whether the government is limited at all by the constitution.  If, contrary to every bit of evidence, the justices think the government is the master of every American, then the issue is moot, and short of revolution, our republic is well and truly lost.  

In that case, expect the government to dictate to you what you can eat, what you can wear, what activities you can engage in, who should be allowed to be born and when you must die, ad nauseam, and to tax away your wealth for the privilege of being ordered about by your "betters."

Eric Holder will testify in front of Congress tomorrow on the Fast and Furious gun running scandal.   Should be interesting indeed, and I believe it can be watched live here.

Obama will have to pardon him to keep him out of jail, where he belongs.

Photographed, supposedly, in DC in January.  If this is true, and spreads nationwide, there will be no end to the recession, and no end to voter anger.

Here in Kalifornia, with it's special rules for fuel, gas is only approaching 4 bucks, but has not breached that yet, thank God.
