Had a friend in high school with one. He managed to get it stuck in some surprising ways, and both burned up the clutch once, but not before getting way back into the mountains, and another time having the wire from the gas peddle snap, at night, on a mountain road, resulting in the cruiser's engine dropping to idle. We had to jam the carburetor into one position between idle and roaring and drive back probably fifty miles at one speed. Way slow up hills, way fast down. Fun times.

ReplyDeleteI had a buddy that modified a Bug. Put tractor tires on the rear and we managed to get it stuck in the middle of the Bonne Carre Spillway in a mud pit.
Miss my ‘76 FJ40. Rode like a little red wagon, got 13mpg, but went anywhere I wanted and looked cool doing it.
