And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
and one day, the Tie breaks, the pliers pops open, releasing the cables, the one to the alternator is instantaneously welded to the frame, and the accessory cable flops away, killing the engine.
In a moment, you remember, AutoZone had those battery clamps on sale last week.
My little gun club has a mower that's 95% used by the shotgunners and they don't take care of it. It often has to be jumped to start. Mind you, there's a battery tender right beside it, but they can't be bothered to hook it up, and I've learned to bring gas with me if I have to mow the area used by my discipline, because it's always empty, or near enough. Anyway, always an adventure using the damn thing. Couple years ago, I was mowing away cheerfully when the damn thing just quit me. Checked the gas and it had plenty so tried to crank and nothing, wouldn't even turn over. Went to looking around and some kinda jumper wire had frayed and broken off a safety switch. Well, poo. So I hiked back to my truck for a small pair of vice grips, hiked back and locked down the broken wire, finished mowing and returned the contraption to the storage shed. Retrieved my vice grips and left it. Figured it would be a good lesson in the benefits of regular maintenance for them to figure out how to fix it themselves.
Yeah, but if you have the wire tie, you don't need the pliers to hold the cable onto the battery post.
ReplyDeleteSo at that point, it becomes stupid.

A wire tie could not easily secure the battery cable to the posts…so the pliers are an expedient example of first class “red neck” engineering…:))
ReplyDeleteAs we say in Raleigh, that looks like Clemson Engineering.
ReplyDeleteWorks better than anything out of Raleigh that's for sure.
DeleteI've seen way worse.
ReplyDeleteIf it's to get you to the parts store it's clever. If it's "good enough" then it's stupid.

ReplyDeleteThat zip tie is going to slide forward.
ReplyDeleteSomebody needs to buy a pair of vice grips.

When you got to get home, you do what you must.
