And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My 1980's high school/college car was a 1970 Saab 99, and I believe I fixed everything on it at least once, including an engine rebuild. That was my automotive education and character-building all rolled into one! I still miss it...
SAAB 96, the first version had a 3 cylinder 2 stroke engine that was troublesome. This one has the Ford V4 built by Ford of Germany from 1962 onwards. Al_in_Ottawa

Had a SAAB 96 purchased 1997 in Europe and then free shipped to New Haven that had the two stroke engine with A Lifetime Guarantee. In Montana I went through two engines but the third lasted until I sold the car with over 125,000 on the odometer. The car got about 50 miles per gallon highway driving due to its free wheeling. Replaced it with a SAAB 99 and eventually gave the car away (ODO >129,000 miles) to an employee's son who drove it from Washington State to Phoenix, AZ and back for four years then to Silicon Valley when he graduated. Great cars and great company but now only a memory.
Loved my 99 Wagonback. Just throw the kids in the back with the seats down and add a couple of blankets are you're ready for a road trip. Main problem was in Central Florida, the windshield wipers weren't up to the tropical rainstorms.

ReplyDeleteI had a 1977 Saab 99 and a 1983 Saab 900. I sure do miss those cars. Great in an Ottawa Winter! Merry Christmas to All!! Steve_in_Ottawa
ReplyDeleteNever saw tires like those - half & half two different tread patterns.
ReplyDeleteI have Nokian tires and they have a similar tread.
DeleteHell, a 1969 4-door LTD will levitate if you drive down the right road fast enough.

3 engines in 125K mi wouldn't get a "great cars" response from me.
DeleteBut that's just me.
