    1. My Dad's first new car purchase was a '56 Ford wagon. He was 37 years old and he had Mom and three kids to support. Because of that, the Ford was pretty basic, with no radio or heater, as they were 'optional at extra cost'.

      Still, the family had lots of great memories in that car. When it was cold, us kids would sing songs along with Mom. Who needs a radio to keep warm?
      It was a different time.

  5. '55 Mercury Monterey. I'm not sure you want to drive it in the mountains with drum brakes.

      I never drove a log truck that had anything other than drum brakes and never had a problem. This was all mountain driving in the Sierra, and a guy just needed to give the equipment (the drum brakes) the respect they deserved.

      I would love to try out the disc brakes the new trucks come with. I'll bet they're a world of difference.
