And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Bob Hope had a wife with two young kids and yet still chose to serve his country during WW2. More importantly, his wife supported his decision. He never truly talked about the many near death experiences he and his entourage had in the Pacific but the USAAF pilots and crew members did. They all said the same thing about him being extremely cool under fire and had a great ability to keep his crew calm when faced with danger.
On the other hand another big time Hollywood star took a IIIA deferment at the insistence of his wife unit.
