And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

B-29. Does it remind you of some other aircraft? Millennial Falcon ring a bell? The B-29 inspired it.
Fifi horked up a hairball in LBB back in 1979ish. Engine number 1 had blown a gasket and a pond of oil was under it. I saw the tail from the highway, and pulled over. I was hanging on the fence, ogling her curves when a red VW chugs up and this unkempt mechanic steps out. He had a couple hydraulic valves in his hands. He unlocked the gate, and asked me to carry one in with him. I found out the ladder was in the nose wheel. He climbed up and I handed him the valves. Then he said the magic words, "well.... come on up!!" I sat in that cockpit. It's really big. The Norden had a plaque that said "Courtesy of Colonel Tennessee Ernie Ford". It was a dream come true. WW2 aviation still is a passion.

ReplyDeleteSince the Millenium Falcon existed in a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, clearly it inspired the B-29, and not the reverse.
