And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II
I wonder how many of these birds are still flying?
I worked on this A/C for most of my Navy Career. It's like an old friend that was sometimes real bitchy. Also, worked on F-8, A-6, and F-14. All gone from active service now. It doesn't seem that long ago, but I've been retired 31 years on 5/31/2016. Sigh.... Where did it go.

I remember when the Marines at Cherry Point first got their F-18s....they had the F-4s mothballed with canopy covers and air-conditioners, maintained flight worthy....I don't think upper command knew they had 'em....seemed they had those things for years....but then again, maybe I was dreaming...
And she's in full grunt!
ReplyDeleteI knew you'd like this.
DeleteNot many in the US, but several other air forces still use them. Over 5000 built.
