A new poll in Florida suggests strongly that the strategy of having Clint Eastwood speak, and the content and style of the speech itself, was in fact a great success.

a snap poll from Survey USA of 754 registered voters who watched the final night of the convention, they may have switched 10% of the vote with the effort.

But then, who wouldn't like a tough speech from Dirty Harry?  No one wants to be on the other end of the barrel of a gun that could "blow your head clean off."
