A San Antonio man rids the world of at least one criminal, and maybe two.  After meeting the armed duo in his kitchen at five in the morning!  Everything is ok, however, since under Texas "castle" doctrine, the homeowner was perfectly legal in opening fire.  That is a law we could definitely use here in California.

It should also be noted that even though the criminals were armed with an AR 15 in .223, the homeowner won the gunbattle with his shotgun.  People often never think of a shotgun for home defense, but that is usually the best choice, as aiming is less critical and over penetration into the house next door is much less likely.  Plus, it makes an enormous noise!

From the article:

The homeowner told police he heard a knock at the door and then some commotion around the garage just before 5:00 a.m. Thinking it was suspicious, the man got his shotgun and went to see what was going on.
Police said the man met two suspects, armed with a AR-15 assault rifle, in the kitchen and began shooting.
One of the suspects was fatally shot, police said, while the other ran out of the house after being shot in the chest. He ran to a get away vehicle where a woman described as his girlfriend drove him to nearby Northeast Baptist Hospital.
