Not that risky, you actually have to keep forward pressure on the stick to keep the wheels skiing along the water, with those tundra tires it would be a piece of cake. Saw a DC-3 do it once on the Mississippi River with the setting sun off his tail, I would give anything to have taken a picture of that, the days before iPhones.
I've got a friend who's been flying almost all his life finally got his official pilot's license but he's logged more hours than most living pilots. To some it's almost an extension of them.
The Piper Super Cub has a low wing loading and is very forgiving as it was designed as an initial trainer. One pilot told me that once you get into ground effect you have to force it to make contact with the grass as it wants to float. Al_in_Ottawa
