Found the top picture on the internet. Seemed familiar....

Yep.  Been there.  Done that.  Autumn above, spring below.

Near Monitor Pass.  Take the dirt road to the left for some nice country.

  1. Parts of Colorado between the front range and the Rockies look like that.

  2. Monitor Pass is the prettiest pass in all the Sierra, IMHO.
If you go, take in Ebbetts Pass too. It's also pretty spectacular.

Is that the road to Leviathan Peak Lookout?

    1. Nope, that's a little further on. If you look at the top picture, two dirt roads intersect the highway in the swale. Turning left takes you to Company Meadows through an endless aspen forest, and further to a panoramic view of the Slinkard Valley. In the fall, it's amazing. I'll find some pictures and post them.

    2. I'll look forward to that, CW.

It was almost 50 years ago when I was exploring that country, and the Aspens still had the markings of the Basque sheep men from yesteryear. I hope they haven't been destroyed by the city people that have no knowledge or appreciation of the past.

I was a special place. It was almost magical.
