And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
If a flash flood were to come AND they survived it they might have a great story to tell later... I met a guy who did, in his story a helo picked him up later off the wall of the canyon.
If that's the gorge I'm thinking of, a number of people were killed there in flash flood not all that many years ago. IIRC, the rain all fell upstream of them and all they knew was that the water was suddenly rising.
Hiked the 18 plus miles of the Narrows 50+ years ago. One of the adults had a ear issue that caused him to think he heard rushing water for the entire trip. He was a bit jumpy for the whole two days.

ReplyDeleteYep thats got to be the Narrows. Hiked using river shoes but it was like walking on wet bowling balls. Ankles were sore for days after
