And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Keep in mind that figs can get huge and swamp you with fruit. Which is a good thing.
Down here they are pretty much trouble free, except for pruning the occasional dead stalk. There are few things as satisfying in life as grabbing a piece of fresh fruit when you walk by one of your own trees.
One place we lived in had a VERY tiny backyard (about 200sqf). Had a random fig sprout up at the fence line. Didn't think too much of it. Fast forward to a year later... it was all we could do try and keep that bastard in check; up to and including hacking it down to a stump! Finally had to give up. When we left a year later it had taken over the entire yard!
