Back seat roomy like you never see today, outside of a van, maybe.

  1. Ah, those seats! No cup holders, no seat belt buckles, no arm rests; at the drive-in with my girl and...

    I'll be in my room.

  2. Thank God those seat are gone. I carry my kids in my back seat. I want them to be able to walk away in case of an accident.

    1. OK Karen
Most of us here survived seats like that some how.

    2. Karen would stroke out if he had seen the car seats for babies.

    3. There were four kids in my family. The baby sat on mom’s lap and the rest of us climbed in the back seat and annoyed each other. On long road trips, one would sleep under the back window, one would sleep on the bench seat and one would sleep on the floor. Somehow, we managed to survive.

    4. Carrying your kids in the backseat is among the worst things you could do, dumbass. They would be the first projectiles through the windows.

  3. There's plenty of room in the back because the front seat is so far forward. That steering wheel would hit most guys in the gut being that close.

    1. Big guts weren't so common on the guys back then as they are now.

  4. Sleep the family in the back of a Checker cab you bet. I imagine a few families were started in the back of a Checker.

  5. I like the option of being able to slide across the bench seat and go out the passenger door.

    1. They did a lot of that in '40's noir movies.

    2. And in '50s television series. Highway Patrol was pretty famous for that move.
Brod wouldn't do it, but all the bad guys and their molls did it.

  7. Back in the day lots of love making happened on both front and back bench seats.

  8. Look at the head and leg room, now look at standard 4 door pickups, about the same, tell you anything, people don't like cramped up jelly beans for cars.
