And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. Massive Roman aqueduct built in Segovia, Spain by emperor Trajan (r. 98-117 AD).
Was there recently. There is a renowned restaurant nearby that serves suckling pig. The owner goes through this animated speech, then breaks up the suckling using the edge of a plate. When he's done he throws the plate across the room. Restaurante Meson de Candido https://mesondecandido.es/
Future historians are gonna look at the Roman's use of concrete and then they're gonna look at the Brutalist's use of it in the 20th century and they're gonna go "wtf? happened?"
No mortar. Just 2000 year old jenga with limestone blocks.
ReplyDeleteAnd it was in use until 1973!
