  3. 1941 Dodge D-19 convertible. The front fender has a bright metal molding. Between the door and the hood is a short section of metal that is not found on GM, Studebaker, or Hudson. I rule out Graham.

  4. I think it's a '41 Olds Super 90, based on the chrome trim line on the fender that extends its full length and the thin chrome trim piece on top of the door. He was elected Governor in '40 and became a Senator in '42 so the time frame is right.

  5. I'm thinking my guess of a '48 Mercury was nowhere near right.

  9. google lens sez:

Based on visual characteristics and historical context, the car appears to be a 1941 Ford Super Deluxe Convertible.

    Key identification features include:

Body Style: A convertible coupe, consistent with models used for political parades in the early 1940s.

Trim Details: The side chrome molding and the shape of the rear fender are characteristic of the 1941 Ford Deluxe and Super Deluxe series.

Historical Alignment: Harlan J. Bushfield served as Governor of South Dakota from 1939 to 1943. The 1941 model year fits perfectly within his term and the style of the campaign sign displayed on the door.

Similar models from that era, such as the 1946–1948 Ford Super Deluxe, share a very similar body shell but often feature different grille and trim configurations.

  14. Well, I have a 1941 For Super DeLuxe, a 4-door. This isn't one. The rear fender mounting surface is different, and that thin trim piece just below the windows isn't Ford, either. Second the Olds. I don't think the Gov. would have ridden in a Ford for a parade. Maybe a Lincoln or Caddy, possibly an Olds in a small town.

    1. 'Ford' not 'For' This Olds has the same trim piece below the window.
