  1. What calibor is that? There seames to be a slight taper from the base up to the lead.

  2. Popcorn ammo for your thundergun. I guess everyone has to start somewhere. 13gr Unique and a soft lead bullet of 35-520gr. Good for 1250fps, about equal to the original loading. Not much recoil.

  3. Those are fairly light 45-70 loads. I've got some of that Buffalo Bore 380 Grain/2075 fps Mono Metal Dangerous Game ammo for mine. Now all I need is something that needs to get smacked that hard.

    1. I was inspired to get the Marlin Guide Gun and customize it after a trip hiking around in Alaska. I will say that nothing makes you feel as alert and alive as hiking around in the land of the Griz.

  5. Not a gun expert but didn't they outlaw lead for hunting years ago?

    1. That was only for migratory waterfowl IIRC.

    3. In Canada
"No person or vessel shall deposit a substance that is harmful to migratory birds, or permit such a substance to be deposited, in waters or an area frequented by migratory birds or in a place from which the substance may enter such waters or such an area." Lead is one of the harmful substances so lead shot is effectively banned.

If you're hunting anything other than ducks or geese lead is okay. I believe many European countries have also banned lead shot. In the '90s Guns & Ammo was always pushing Bismuth shot and IIRC it turned out that the magazine's owner had invested in Bismuth mines.

  7. I've got 4 Henry's, with a 45-70 big boy. But, I've moved to Marlin rifles, prior to the Remington takeover disaster. I like the JM stamped rifles, and so far, have 3, 2 in 450 Marlin, 1 in 45-70. The 1895G is the guide rifle and have one in each caliber. Since Mr. Griz has been in the area, having a hard hitting lever gun just seems like a good idea.

    1. I've been lucky enough to have glommed onto a couple of JM rollmarked Marlin 1894s. One is a .41 Magnum, the other is a .44-40. The .44-40 is extra special because only 325 were made. They're both beautifully made rifles.

    2. Asking for a friend...
Would 300 Blackout from an 18 or 20" AR platform do for a Griz?

A world record Griz was killed over 100 years ago by a late middle aged squaw in Canada with a single shot .22 LR rifle. Shot placement is key.

    5. She was 63 years old with a single shot rifle firing 22 Long (not 22 Long Rifle). Search for Bella Twin if you're interested.
