And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

As a complete WAG, it's a scaled curve for laying out railway switches and curved track. Make it too tight a curve and you have problems with things like car ends colliding, wheel trucks not tracking properly, etc.
I've got a couple of these, including one with a little T-square on the end.

ReplyDeleteIf I had to guess, I would say it's an old-fashioned architect's scale ruler. Nowadays they make'em triangular, with 6 different scales on each one.
