Like father like daughter. I rustled up and digitized this old picture of a very youthful me getting ready to drop into a wild cave out in Tuolumne County.
And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Extremely cool. Yeah, she's got your genes and sense of adventure.
ReplyDeleteI've been caving before but doing it in a state that is prone to earthquakes seems... bold.
ReplyDeleteHexes! I used to have a full rack of those. Tended to wiggle loose a lot.
ReplyDeleteWhen Friends came out, it was like the conversion from analog to digital.
The World needs more Cave Painters!
ReplyDeleteThere are a number of lava tubes up around Weed. Be prepared to see bats roosting. Don't disturb in winter though.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is what one might call a "spelunky lass".
ReplyDeleteJust got done watching vids on utoob about people who got trapped in caves and died. Usually by drowning but one guy didn't have the right gear to climb out and died slowly. Even the experts get lost and can't find their way out.
ReplyDeletegreat pic! i used to live at Pinecrest.
ReplyDeleteHuh-uh. No way, no how.
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeleteYou sure as heck would never have gotten me inside of that cave.
ReplyDeleteNo. Nyet. Nein. Nope. Nope nope nopety nope-nope.
ReplyDeleteKnock-knock. Nope!
Well said! And may I add - nope!
DeleteNo knee pads? I am willing to risk my life, but not my comfort.
ReplyDeleteWhen younger (and MUCH thinner) I'd do caving in VA and WVA.
ReplyDeleteDad talked about exploring the gypsum caves in Oklahoma before the war. One of his buddies was fond of singing the Ballad Of Floyd Collins. Gotta love dark humor.
ReplyDeleteSorry but with all the recent tremblers there’s no frikkin ’ way I’m descending a dank cave in Cali lol. Cue The Big One.
ReplyDeleteHope you don't live in bear or mountain lion county. Firing a short off would be the start of you saying WHAT the rest of your life
ReplyDeleteHave you explored the lava tubes up around Tulelake? Back when Ronnie was in the Whitehouse, those of us at OIT would go from time to time. Learned my limits with claustrophobia.

Also - Tule' is a great place over the winter to watch the Bald Eagles fly out.
Caving is the daughter's entertainment now, but those lava tubes are pretty cool, especially how you can see how the lava river slowed down, stopped, and then cooled. Saw a bald eagle from my back yard just a couple days ago. Living in Redding has it's advantages.
