And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Thank you. A good look shows the throttle linkage coming up, rotating a bellcrank, driving a plate with three holes that control the airflow from the stacks, and the other side is driven from this sliding plate. How quickly the whole thing happens can be adjusted by changing the length of the input arm of the bellcrank. Look at the balance, with the transmission behind the axle. The thing weighs what? Engine and transmission plus four hundred pounds? Good Grief!! I didn't read anything yet, just went lustfully looking at the pictures.
About 10 years ago a neighbor was moving from Tucson to Wisconsin (IIRC) he had a 928 with the Mercedes V8 and needed to sell it. He was asking about $10k and figured it needed another $10-15k in work to bring it up to prime condition. It was drivable as-is, but pretty rough. I could have done everything but the engine internals. Still, it would have been a lot of work and I was traveling a lot for my job and couldn’t work up enough enthusiasm for it. I passed, but sort of regret it still.
when c.19 years old subscribed to a motor racing newsprint tabloid, a weekly, IIRC, within a year it went to a standard magazine format and that wrecked it. anyway, until then p it was great for the lunchbox, and it had ads for racing gear in the margins, 5 speed unsynched hewland transaxles being one frequent offering... - I was thrilled.
Back in 1967, I had a buddy while we were in the Marines. He was a major motor head. We'd go on liberty from Camp Pendleton and drive up to Riverside to watch the Formula One races. WOW!!! For a kid that thought a 57 Chevy was "hot"!!!
Looks a couple cylinders short to me.

I wish I knew where to learn more about it. It's such a marvel of design.

Like to find one of those heavy duty compact transaxles for a v-8 mid engine project.
ReplyDeletePorsche 924, 944 and 928s used a transaxle. The 928 had around 300hp in the high performance models.
