And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I still remember. 1969 winter storm. We drove to Waimea Bay which was regularly closing out. I'd never seen it breaking so far out. The ground trembled with every breaking wave.
That same storm I watched at the window our full 55 gallon metal trash can with lid battened tight sail horizontally about five feet in the air.
Surf is definitely up!
ReplyDeleteNice, but that was a year ago...
ReplyDeleteWho cares when this spectacular event took place? I marvel at either the bravery and skill ... or the stupidity of those surfers.
ReplyDeleteBeen there--ain't done that.
Deleteshame the waves never reached the sierras.
ReplyDeleteFled LA in 2000...
DeleteGnarly waves.
ReplyDeleteSwell swells.
ReplyDeleteThere is not much better than being on the beach when BIG waves are crashing in!

BTW: the surf wasn't *that* big. I mean, even Mav was only 30 feet.
ReplyDeleteBlacks and W&S have deep water canyons leading close to the shoreline. These canyons act to focus swell energy to those spots.
Blacks is the most fun I have had on a beach in CA. Nude and gnarly sometimes.
DeleteThe media really hyped this. Mostly stupid people caught unaware and some very minor flooding.
ReplyDeleteLived there for many years...only saw the Cove break about 6-7 times.
