MASSIVE WAVES AT BLACK'S BEACH AND LA JOLLA COVE

    1. I still remember. 1969 winter storm. We drove to Waimea Bay which was regularly closing out. I'd never seen it breaking so far out.
      The ground trembled with every breaking wave.

      That same storm I watched at the window our full 55 gallon metal trash can with lid battened tight sail horizontally about five feet in the air.

  6. BTW: the surf wasn't *that* big. I mean, even Mav was only 30 feet.

    Blacks and W&S have deep water canyons leading close to the shoreline. These canyons act to focus swell energy to those spots.

  8. Lived there for many years...only saw the Cove break about 6-7 times.
