And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
There is an Italian restaurant in Mt Vernon, OH, that is a converted carhop. They kept the parking lots with the canopy. I don't know if the carhop girls ever had roller skates. That's before my time. But the town did have a roller rink until recently.
The original Big Bear grocery store near Ohio State was originally a roller rink. Now replaced by a hotel.
I was an OSU student when that Big Bear closed. Just months before, I had shopped there with a girlfriend who lived in a nearby dorm. The place was unmistakably a roller rink with a magnificent wood floor. I try not to think about what happened to all that fine wood.
There is a seasonal (summer only) A&W stand in Middlebury Vermont that still had carhop girls on skates a few years ago. Not sure if it survived the plandemic.
If I see an overweight blue/purple/green-haired gender-confused creature in a tight outfit wobbling along on weak cankles any where near my food, I will put the car in reverse and GTFO.
Don't recall roller-skated delivery but Hot Shoppes restaurants in the Washington, D.C. area had carhops. A teen's ongoing right-of-passage was a Mighty Mo burger, onion rings, Orange Freeze milkshake and a hot-fudge cake for dessert. Many a starter set of dishes included a set of Hot Shoppes stackable coffee cups. Hot Shoppes drive-ins were a territorial gathering spot for teens while the sit-down restaurant component was an excellent family style eatery on par with HoJo's.
When my son was about 8 we stopped at a Sonic. Girl on skates is coming out the door with 2-3 drinks on a plate. She starts to spill them and spins around a couple of times trying to make the save, she failed and smoothly went back inside.

ReplyDeleteYeah! Yeah! YeahI I found this one; I found her! I found her at her 85th birthday party at an assisted living facility in Florida.
ReplyDeleteSonic still has carhops on skates.
ReplyDeleteThe ones we have in southern Oregon are still drive thru only since the plandemic.
DeleteThe ones here in Pueblo still have skates, but very few of the hops will wear them because I don't think the average young kid knows how to skate.

DeleteEh, grow up. Your only 8 once.
DeleteI bet if he could find one Miss Dylan Mulvaney would apply for a job.
ReplyDeleteBut only if they serve Bud Light.

DeleteSonics all over central Texas offer employees the option of skating, but few are willing.
ReplyDeleteIf they offered them a dollar an hour more they might.
