And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? Only the English could come up with something like this.
Cars were heavily taxed every year in Britain but three wheelers were. Also after WWII new cars were heavily taxed (a 6,000 pound Rolls-Royce would be taxed 2,000 pounds) but a kit car that you assembled in your shed was not. Several companies created kits where you went to the local breakers yard to acquire an engine, transmission, brakes etc to complete your car. The most famous of those companies is Lotus. Al_in_Ottawa
