And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Doesn't look strong enough to hold up the building
A large proportion of the force is being received by the banks of the stream. The compressive strength of rock and mortar doesn't care how much weight is on the arch, as long as the arch cannot expand laterally (and even then it will withstand some motion as the arch flattens out).
just like i tell my wife, don't try to make any sense out of watching the 3 stooges. same here with some of these pictures.
